9th May 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During the inspection we spoke with four patients who were attending the dental practice. This was to gain their views about the service they received. Patients told us the staff were polite and helpful. They told us, "The surgery is very good", "Always clean", "Could not ask for better"and "I like it as you can get an appointment quickly."

Patients said the staff made sure they received sufficient information about their treatment options, so they were able to make informed decisions about what treatments were best for them. A patient told us they knew what treatment they were having and everything had been explained to them. Another patient told us the staff were reassuring and did their best to relieve any anxiety they had about their treatment.

We found the dental practice to be clean and tidy. Staff were working in accordance with infection control policies and procedures to prevent, detect and control the spread of infection.

Staff had access to training and support. This meant they had the skills, knowledge and expertise to provide care and treatment to patients safely. Staff interviewed told us they had access to a good training programme and that everyone worked well as a team.

Systems were in place to assess and monitor the quality of the service provided at the dental practice. We saw a number of audits (checks) which showed how this was achieved. Improvements had been made where necessary, to ensure patients received safe, effective treatment.
