Letter from the Chief Inspector of General Practice

This practice is rated as Good overall. The practice had been rated as Good during the previous inspection on 29 October 2014.

As part of our inspection process, we also look at the quality of care for specific population groups. The population groups are rated as:

People whose circumstances may make them vulnerable – Good

People experiencing poor mental health (including people with dementia) - Good

We carried out an announced comprehensive inspection at Jubilee Surgery - Boohan on 27 November 2017 as part of our inspection programme.

At this inspection we found:

  • The practice had clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.

  • The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided. It ensured that care and treatment was delivered according to evidence- based guidelines.

  • Staff involved patients in decisions about their care and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.

  • Patients found the appointment system easy to use and reported that they were able to access care when they needed it.

  • There was a strong focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.

The areas where the provider should make improvements are:

  • Keep a record of the action taken in response to medicines and safety alerts.

  • Keep an up to date record of evidence of professional registration and medical indemnity information for all staff, including locums.

  • Develop a system for all staff to receive a formal annual appraisal and assessment of development needs.

  • Set up a system to review the newly introduced prescription sheet log to check it is maintained.

  • Introduce a Patient Participation Group.

Letter from the Chief Inspector of General Practice

We carried out a comprehensive inspection of Jubilee Surgery – Boohan on 29 October 2014.

We rated Jubilee Surgery - Boohan overall as good. We rated it as good for providing safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led services. We rated the practice good at providing services to the six population groups we report on.

Our key findings were as follows:

  • The practice clinical team referenced published evidence based guidance and their local clinical commissioning group care pathways in the delivery of care and treatment, and in ensuring positive health outcomes for its patients
  • The practice used the Quality and Outcomes framework to measure, monitor and improve performance; and was performing better when compared to other practices in the area and against national averages.
  • Patient feedback indicated that they found the practice staff team caring and compassionate.
  • The practice was well led, and the staff team had a shared vision and values that prioritised good patient care and teamwork and promoting a supportive working environment
