20th December 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We looked at the records of several patients and spoke to four people attending the surgery on the day of our visit. We also spoke to staff working in the surgery.

Patients told us they were given enough information about their treatment and the fees when applicable, which enabled them to make choices. They said the dentist discussed these things in detail with them One patient said, "The dentist explains everything and I sign for my treatment.''We observed staff treating people in a respectful and friendly way.

We observed emergency treatment being accommodated during our visit. Staff told us,‘’We fit in anyone who has pain first.''

We discussed infection control and the sterilisation of equipment and instruments with the lead dental nurse for infection control. The nurse told us, ‘’All the staff are trained in decontamination procedures.’’ We were told nursing staff prepared and cleaned the surgeries between patients.

Staff employed had completed national qualifications and were registered with the General Dental Council. All the staff had Continuous Professional Development records in line with the professional body requirements.

The people that we spoke with told us they had never needed to complain. One person said, ‘’I have no complaints about my treatment.’’
