Records we reviewed demonstrated to us that people only provided a valid consent to their treatment once the dentist had explained everything about their treatment options. Staff had received training in the Mental Capacity Act which ensured that people who lacked the mental capacity to give consent were only treated where this was in their best interests.

We reviewed three people's plans of care and found that these were up-to-date. People had their care and health information checked each time they visited the surgery for an appointment. The practice held emergency equipment and drugs which ensured people would be safe during and after an emergency.

Our review of the dental practice's infection control demonstrated to us that Mace Dental Surgery followed Department of Health (DH) guidance for the control and prevention of infection. Records we reviewed demonstrated to us that the treatment rooms were sanitised and cleaned before people used the service.

We reviewed staff Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks, previous employment records and photographic identity records and found these to be up-to-date and valid.

The practice sought the views of staff and people who use the service to ensure that the practice improved the quality of care provided as much as was reasonably practicable. We viewed the most recent survey records which showed us that the majority of comments about Mace Dental Surgery were positive.
