21st May 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Before people received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. The provider had in place a policy on consent. We spoke with four people on the day of our inspection and they told us that they felt fully involved in discussions regarding their treatment.

People’s needs were assessed and care and treatment was planed in line with their individual care plan. Comments from patients included “Staff are extremely knowledgeable and have worked here a long time" and "I couldn't fault them in any way."

The practice had in place a comprehensive system for the decontamination of instruments with supporting polices and procedures for staff to follow. People were treated in a clean and hygienic environment. This ensured that effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

Staff received appropriate professional development. We spoke with the majority of staff that worked at the practice. They told us that they were well supported by the dentist and that the dentist was extremely approachable and ensured people received person centred care.

People who use the service, their representatives and staff were asked for their views about their experience at the practice. A range of systems were in place to monitor how the service was being run. This included obtaining feedback from patients and a range of audits carried out by staff within the practice.
