12th September 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our visit we spoke with four patients who use the service. Patients described the support they received from staff as "friendly, helpful and gentle". Patients commented that their privacy was respected and that treatment options were explained in a way they understood.

Patients who used the service said that they felt involved in decisions about their treatment and they felt able to ask questions about what to expect.

Patients we spoke with told us they felt safe and comfortable at the practice and that they had been well looked after during their visits

Patients were protected against the risk of acquiring an infection. Staff were aware of the latest changes to Department of Health Guidance Health Technical Memorandum 01-05 Decontamination in primary care dental care practices (HTM 01-05). Waste was being stored securely and safely. People told us that the practice was “very clean” and that they had no concerns about the cleanliness of the waiting area or consultation room.

Patients who use the practice were confident that they were given information about medication that they could understand where this was prescribed or advised by the dentist. Staff told us that regular audits are done in relation to handling, usage, safe keeping, and disposal of medicines used in treatment.

We saw staff interacting with the people who used the service, throughout our visit and they were friendly and professional towards them.
