14th November 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with the dentist, the the dental nurse and the receptionist during our inspection and we spoke with two patients who attended appointments. We also checked the records for three patients who received treatment at the surgery.

Patients told us that they were satisfied with the care and treatment they received. They told us that they were consulted and told about their options before they consented to treatment. One person said, “The dentist only extracts a tooth if there is no other option” and another person said, “I have needed emergency treatment in the past and the dentist saw me the next day”.

We saw evidence that the dentist and dental nurse had kept their continuing professional development (CPD) up to date and had attended appropriate training courses.

Both patients that we spoke with told us that the premises were always clean and that the dentist and dental nurse wore protective clothing. We saw that the premises were maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.

The premises were suitable for purpose and a ramp had been provided at the front entrance to enable people with a disability to use the practice.

People told us that they had never had to make a complaint but that they would be happy to discuss any concerns with the dentist, the dental nurse or the receptionist. They said that they were confident that they would help alleviate their concerns if they could.
