7th February 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

This practice offers orthodontic treatment for adults and children. Orthodontic treatment usually involves the wearing of braces and often the extraction of teeth. No general dentist treatment is undertaken at the practice.

Our visit was discussed and arranged with the practice three days in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak to staff working at the practice, as well as people registered with the practice. We asked the staff at the practice to issue a questionnaire to some of the people who received a service. We received ten completed questionnaires.

As part of our visit, we spoke with a parent attending the practice with their child and five people who were either registered with the practice or attended with their children. We also spoke with the orthodontist and their staff about working at the practice.

People that used the practice told us that they were happy with the quality of treatment received. They felt they were given enough information about their treatment options and were able to ask all the questions they wanted to. Their comments included:

‘Talks through what he will do.’

‘Service is excellent.’

‘Personal, quality service, focussed on achieving the objectives of the patient.’

‘Appointments and time scheduled are strictly adhered to.’

Parents of the young people who were using the service told us the young people were fully involved in their treatment. They told us the orthodontist knew how to speak to younger people so that they understood what was happening and felt at ease.

People told us that the practice was clean and tidy and that they had no concerns about hygiene.
