We carried out this inspection in order to see what action the provider had taken following our last inspection of New Forest Dental Practice on 14 February 2013. On that occasion we found standards expected for infection control and staff support were not met.

On this inspection we found the provider had put systems in place to ensure the standard for infection control and staff support were met.

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed. People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

We spoke to four patients, all of whom were very complimentary about the practice. They felt that they were treated with respect and dignity. They told us that they were informed about the choices, costs, alternatives and possible outcomes of their treatment. One patient told us "It is an excellent practice - very friendly" and another said "I am nervous - lovely dentist - he has restored my confidence". The four patients told us that they found the practice clean and comfortable. One patient said "It is a lovely environment".

We saw from the suggestion box analysis and the patient satisfaction questionnaires that patients were in general very happy. We found this was ongoing and any verbal comments would also be captured and discussed.

The practice was friendly, welcoming and informative. We saw in the waiting area that a daily national newspaper was present for patients whilst waiting, along with other magazines. We saw that patients were listened to in all areas of the practice. The surgery was clean throughout.

We found that all patient's were given sufficient information to give an informed consent.

Staff were supported to receive training but staff appraisal was not undertaken.
