25th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Records we reviewed demonstrated to us that people only provided a valid consent to their treatment once the dentist had explained everything about their treatment options. People were able to withdraw their valid consent to treatment at any time during their treatment at the surgery.

We reviewed five people's plans of care and found that these were up-to-date. Peoples' care and health information was assessed at peoples' first visit to the dental practice and this was checked each time a person visited the surgery for an appointment. The practice held emergency equipment and drugs which ensured people would be safe before, during and after a medical emergency.

One person who we spoke with said, "They are always punctual and very polite. The dentist is always up-to-date with my dental care".

All of the staff who we spoke with were able to describe to us the appropriate action they would take if they needed to report any safeguarding of vulnerable adults or children issues or concerns.

From the staff shift rosters we reviewed, and staff who we spoke with, we saw that there were enough staff to provide appropriate care and support to people who used the service.

We reviewed the dental practice's complaints records and found that there had only been two minor complaints. Both complaints had been resolved to the satisfaction of the complainants. Another person we spoke with said, "I have never had cause to complain. They are wonderful".
