27th November 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with six patients and more than ten members of staff. This included two people who were employees of subcontracted organisations but who worked permanently at the hospital.

Patients were pleased with the quality of the care that they received. Comments we heard included, “very very good”, and “… Zimmer frame use was talked through very well and (staff) helped me onto the frame for the first time” One patient said,” medical care is excellent … always washing their hands … (refer me) to other specialists and work as a team”.

There were systems in place to ensure that that the building and equipment were maintained to ensure people’s safety.

There was a range of activity to monitor and improve care and treatment for patients..

There was system to manage complaints. Complaints were taken seriously and the provider tried to resolve them to the satisfaction of the complainant where possible.

22nd January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

All the patients said that they had understood the procedure that they were in hospital for. They had consented to it after being informed of the risks and benefits.

Patients were pleased with the care they received. One patient said, “patients should come first and here they do”. Patients felt that staff were attentive without being overprotective. A patient said, “they are always there if you need them or call them but they leave you to get on”.

Patients felt safe at the hospital.

Staff were well support to maintain and develop their skills.

The hospital was newly refurbished. It was clean and bright with no noxious smells. The theatres were well maintained and well staffed. There were systems in place to monitor on the quality of the services provided.
