15th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Information about patient’s experiences of One Health Care Group at Thornbury Hospital was gained by reviewing completed patient satisfaction surveys and other relevant documentation. We also spoke with the company director and two consultant surgeons, one of whom was also one of the medical directors of the company.

We found that patients had consented to and been involved in decisions about their care and treatment. Patient comments about consent within satisfaction surveys were positive. For example, one response stated, “all the points relating to my operation were explained in a clear and professional manner.”

Our review of patient satisfaction surveys and the records of six patients evidenced that care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured patient safety and welfare.

We spoke with two consultant surgeons about safeguarding. Each consultant had an awareness of the different types of abuse and was clear about the action they would take to safeguard patients.

We found that arrangements were in place to ensure that surgeons received further training and professional development opportunities. Clear records about re-validation were in place. This is the process which ensures that clinicians have met the necessary standards and are fit to practise.

We saw that policies and procedures were in place to investigate complaints.
