20th May 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Parents of patients we spoke with confirmed that they were given information and leaflets about options for treatment. We were told they were given time to consider them. One said, “I’m always told if I have questions, I can phone up at any time.”

We looked at patient records on the electronic system and in paper format. We discussed the records kept with the parents of some of the patients. One parent said, “They are really good at explaining what they are going to do and I’m always asked to sign something to say I agree.”

A practice safety audit was held on a white board within the decontamination room. This included the responsibilities of the different staff within the practice.

Staff we spoke with were confident in their roles and said they had everything they needed to fulfil their responsibilities. One said, “I’ve been supported to develop whilst I have been here, I started as a receptionist and am now a hygienist.”

The practice had a standard set of policies and procedures. Daily, weekly and monthly monitoring was undertaken as necessary against the different practice procedures.
