1st January 1970 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with the parents of three patients who told us they were very happy with the treatment. They said that they were able to observe when their children received treatment. Parents told us that they understood the treatment options and the options were also explained to their children. This was supported by detailed notes about treatment patients had received. Patients were given the opportunity to feed back about their experiences in the practice. We saw 56 patient survey comments that had been returned in 2012. These were positive. One person said for example: 'I now really like my smile' and another said 'always welcoming, friendly'. When a patient made a comment the provider tried to improve the service,an example being improvements to the toilet facilities after negative feedback.

We saw that staff used current national guidance and evidence to support their care and treatment of patients. There were systems in place at this practice to reduce the risk and spread of infection. During our visit we spoke to clinical staff who were knowledgeable about the safe practices required to meet the essential standards of Department of Health guidance.

The practice design, layout and security of the premises was fit for purpose. The practice was situated on the second floor of a commercial building, this meant that the practice was unable to offer full disabled access. The provider had acknowledged this and made sure that referring dentists and new patients were aware.
