24th January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with five people, two dental nurses, the practice manager, the orthodontist therapist and the principal orthodontist/dentist. We observed how people were greeted and treated, the cleaning and sterilising of instruments and checked four people's records. The practice manager made all the records, policies and information accessible to us.

People we spoke with who used this service had no complaints and spoke highly of the staff that attended to them. They said they were given options on the colour of the brace, whether a fitted or removable brace was better for them. One person said: "You don't even know I have a brace because it is invisible." A second person said: "I am very happy with the treatment I get here. The staff are very helpful, friendly and polite and knows who I am when I walk through the door."

The practice had systems in place to, monitor and reduce cross infection, safeguard people and investigate complaints. There was the opportunity for people to air their views through the patient satisfaction survey and suggestion box and we saw that the information gathered was used to improve quality of care.
