19th November 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We did not speak with people who used the service at this inspection. This was because the issue identified at the last inspection was in relation to records.

At this inspection, we reviewed the care record documentation and spoke with one staff member and the manager.

We reviewed five people's care and treatment records. We found evidence which showed people’s medical histories were reviewed and updated at each visit. We saw treatment plans and consent forms were signed and agreed with people. We found records clearly showed the relationship of the person giving consent on behalf of a child.

We found people’s care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people’s safety and welfare.

27th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We visited Parish Dental Practice. We spoke with four people who use the service, four staff, the registered manager and the owner. We reviewed six people’s treatment records.

People we spoke with told us they were consulted about the treatment options and made informed decisions. One person said: “I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and I am very happy with the service”.

People were satisfied with the care and treatment received. One person said: "They always explain things very well”. We found that some people’s treatment records and medical histories were not up-to-date and fully completed.

Extensive renovations have recently been completed throughout the surgery. People said they were pleased with the new facilities and felt it was a great improvement. They told us the practice was kept clean and staff took steps to protect them from any risk of infection or harm. We found there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The infection prevention and decontamination policies were up to date and comprehensive.

Records viewed showed that staff had the relevant qualifications and experience to deliver the services provided. We found there were sufficient numbers of staff to meet the needs of people using the service.

There was an effective complaints procedure in place. People told us they were comfortable about raising any concerns they had and said they felt confident they would be dealt with.
