4th April 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

The practice’s dental team consists of one dentist, two qualified dental nurses and one trainee dental nurse.

During our inspection we spoke with three people, two members of staff and the dentist. We looked at six people’s treatment records.

We found that people were involved in making decisions about the treatment they received. One person told us, “Yes, we discuss what’s going to happen”. People told us they were given choices about their care.

The treatment people received was reflected in their records. One person told us, “I find it easy to make an appointment”.

Staff were clear about identifying abuse and safeguarding patients, and had access to important safeguarding guidance.

We found that staff checks were not always carried out prior to employment. People told us staff were polite and helpful. One person said, “I’ve never had any trouble with them”.

We found that the decontamination process for dental instruments was appropriate. We saw that the treatment room was clean and well maintained.

The service had a number of audits to ensure quality of service. People’s opinions on their treatment were sought.
