18th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with people who had appointments on the day of our visit. They told us they were provided with detailed information about the treatment available to them which included the cost of each option or treatment. They told us they did not have any problem making appointments. One person said they had received urgent or emergency treatment when it had been necessary.

All of the people we spoke with were positive about the care and treatment they received. "Very good indeed" was the comment of one person who had received extensive treatment over a period of over 30 years. People said there were always sufficient staff present to meet their needs. We saw copies of a patient feedback questionnaire provided for all patients and available in reception. People were also given a smaller form asking for comments. This showed people could comment on the service if they chose to do so.

We looked at five patient care records. These included medical histories which were updated following each visit or course of treatment. This meant records included details of any health conditions and their implications for the provision of dental care.

We saw there were infection control policies and procedures in place which were being followed. We saw evidence the practice had achieved Denplan Excel status.(An external quality assurance measure). In the latest audit by Denplan Excel, Prodent were found to be; " complying with all current published guidelines on infection control."
