28th February 2014 - During a routine inspection
We spoke with two people using the service and also reviewed feedback forms. People told us "I don't feel rushed into making a decision" and "I read and signed my treatment plan". They said they were happy with the service provided and that they would recommend the dentist to others. Staff were aware of the importance of gaining consent from patients before commencing treatment. We saw records that showed where treatment was required an individual treatment plan including costs was provided and written consent was obtained from the patient. The practice held detailed, computerised records related to each patient which contained their treatment options and their clinical notes. Medical histories and signed copies of treatment plans and consent forms were kept in paper format. We observed staff as they demonstrated the procedure they used to clean dirty instruments and found they followed the accepted processes correctly. There were protocols in place for cleaning within the practice and staff confirmed each treatment room was cleaned in the morning, in between patients and at the end of the day. We saw that staff completed a daily infection prevention checklist. We looked at the training records of staff at the practice. These included evidence of training and current General Dental Council (GDC) certificates. We found that regular audits had been undertaken at the practice, these included infection control and clinical record keeping.
