9th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People received safe and effective care. All people were initially examined by the orthodontist who was responsible for devising their treatment plan. They worked alongside an orthodontic therapist who was able to conduct repairs and alterations under their instruction. People were involved in making decisions about their care. The orthodontist used a variety of methods to show the different orthodontic devices available and to explain what each person could expect during their treatment to enable them to make a choice.

We spoke with the one person who had an appointment during our inspection and looked at the provider's 2013 feedback survey. People felt they had been provided with the information they needed and that they received high quality treatment. One person described the orthodontists as "professional and caring". They knew how to make a complaint if they needed to and there was a formal complaints procedure in place. Peoples' comments and complaints were responded to appropriately.

People were cared for by staff who received appropriate professional development. Staff told us they felt well supported and we saw evidence of annual appraisals taking place. People were cared for in a clean and hygienic environment. The provider's policies and procedures for infection control followed national guidelines and we saw that regular checks and audits were carried out to ensure equipment was working correctly. Reusable instruments were cleaned and stored appropriately.
