18th September 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People told us that they were involved in the decisions about their dental treatment and care. One person told us that: “My dentist is very good and always involves me in any treatment that l may need.” This showed us that people’s views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care.

We reviewed eight dental treatment records in detail. These contained in-depth treatment plans. This meant that people experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

Those staff spoken with told us that they were confident that they would recognise and know what action to take if they observed any potential abuse. This meant that people who used the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

The staff we spoke with were aware of their roles and responsibilities in regard to infection control and the prevention of potential cross infections. This meant that people were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

The service had an audit framework in place and documented audits took place. The steps taken to address any identified concerns had been recorded. This showed us that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.
