6th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with people who were positive about their experience of being treated at the practice. One person said: “I rang for an emergency appointment this morning and they fitted me in straight away.” Another person said: “Every single member of staff is excellent.”

People were given appropriate information and support regarding their care or treatment. People were given written guidance about oral health, and a new scheme was in place which enabled people to hold a dental self care plan.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. The dental practice had dedicated decontamination and sterilisation facilities. We observed correct practices for the decontamination and sterilisation process were undertaken.

We spoke with the practice manager about the arrangements in place for monitoring clinical staff’s professional status. We saw that checks were carried out on staff’s professional qualifications and registration when they were appointed.

Audits were regularly undertaken, looking at areas including infection control, recall, record keeping and the environment. Where audits identified areas for improvement, action plans were devised and implemented.
