13th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with the dentist, two dental nurses and six people who were using the service. People told us that the dentist fully explained all treatment options with them and gave them all the information they needed before they were treated so that they could make an informed decision about their treatment. One person said “he [the dentist] is very good and very honest. He always gives me all my options before I go ahead with treatment.”

People were asked for their medical history and consented to any planned treatment. We observed positive interactions between staff and the people using the service and the people we spoke with were very complimentary about the service. One person said, "it's 100%, I've been coming here for over 10 years and I am very happy." Another person commented, "the staff are very friendly and helpful."

Regular infection control audits had been carried out to monitor standards and to identify any improvements that could be made. All clinical staff had completed infection control training and were aware of current guidelines. People told us that the dental surgery was always clean.

There were adequate numbers of staff available to meet people's needs.

There was an effective system in place for managing complaints about the service.
