11th December 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection at Roseneath Dental Care, we spoke with twelve patients, the practice manager, two dentists, three nurses and one reception staff.

One patient said "The dentist explains my treatment fully before I provide consent" and "I've signed consent forms for specific treatments that I've previously received".

One dentist explained the comprehensive oral health assessment of newly registered patients. The dentist described both soft and hard tissue examinations and the equipment used to assess and diagnose tooth, gum and palate disease. One patient said "I've recommended the practice to friends".

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection. We watched a dental nurse prepare a surgery between patients. The nurse and dentist wore uniforms, a face mask, eye protectors and disposable gloves while working. One patient said "It's absolutely spotless - they always clean between patients".

The practice manager showed us records relating to training that staff had been involved in within the previous eighteen months. This included fire safety and awareness training, medical emergencies and electronic presentations about child protection and child safeguarding.

The practice used a comprehensive information technology programme to manage patient records and information. The service had a data protection policy and, once signed by patients; documents were scanned and retained electronically.
