18th October 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Staff were friendly, professional and welcoming to patients attending the surgery. People were given choice of appointment times to suit their needs and emergencies were given a high priority. People told us they understood the nature of the proposed treatment services and consented to them. One person told us their treatment options had been explained to them thoroughly and models and images on the computer had been used to add further clarification of what the treatment(s) involved. Everybody we spoke with said they were satisfied with the treatment provided. They said the dentist and dental hygienist explained the options available, the procedures and the fees, which enabled them to make informed choices.

People’s privacy and dignity was respected; all consultations and treatment were undertaken in the privacy of the dentist’s and dental hygienist's treatment rooms.

We found people's medical history had been checked at each examination and any changes in medication or health status were updated. This helped to inform the dentist of any issues that could impact upon treatment options.

Effective systems were in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

Staff were aware of their responsibilities in reporting any suspicion or allegations of abuse to the registered person. This ensured people could be confident the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.
