13th September 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

Our previous inspection in June 2013 identified that guidance specified in the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 01-05 was not being followed. During this inspection we found procedures met the essential standards of HTM 01-05.

Patients were cared for in a clean environment. We spoke with two members of staff who demonstrated a comprehensive understanding of infection control principles.

We saw cleaning schedules were in place for clinical and non-clinical areas. We looked at daily and weekly records showing cleaning had been completed in accordance with the schedules. Reusable instruments were sterilised in a purpose built decontamination room.

An infection control audit had been completed which showed infection control systems and procedures were working effectively.

6th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with six patients who used the practice. They told us they were given sufficient information about how to care for their teeth. We found the service was flexible in respect of where and how they treated patients. We heard one patient being offered a home visit.

We looked at four treatment records and saw treatment plans were clearly documented. Patients told us they were happy with the treatment they received. On said, “They’re very efficient, the service is very good”. Another said, “I’m content with the service”.

Patients were cared for in a clean environment. However, not all guidance specified in the Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 01-05 was being followed. Infection control audits had not been conducted and no cleaning schedules were in place.

We looked at training records for the dentist, one of the hygienists and one of the dental nurses. We saw each was qualified and registered to practice by the General Dental Council. They had each completed the necessary continued professional development to meet the requirements of their professional body.

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service patients received. The provider used patients’ satisfaction questionnaires and verbal feedback to seek the views of people using the service. Changes had been made as a result of feedback received.
