20th May 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Patients we spoke with confirmed their treatment was explained to them, including any costs involved, before the treatment commenced. One patient told us, “I didn’t feel under any pressure to make up my mind today. I was encouraged to go away and think about the treatment, which I will do”

The practice kept up to date and detailed electronic records of the care given to patients. Each record provided comprehensive information about the patient’s current dental needs and past treatment. This included all dental, hygienist and dental therapist appointments the patient had attended as well as digitally stored copies of x-rays.

The practice had a range of infection prevention and control procedures in place to keep patients safe. We found up to date checks and audits which were carried out on a regular basis. We looked at the most recent audit which showed that the practice was meeting the required standards.

Records showed that professional registration was up to date for all staff and we saw evidence of ongoing continuous professional development.

We asked the staff what systems were in place to seek feedback from patients using the service. The manager told us the practice carried out monthly surveys and collected ‘feedback forms’ to gain information from patients about the service. We saw the results for the last three months which showed a high level of satisfaction with the service.
