12th September 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

At the last inspection in February 2013 we found Shoreham Oral Care non-compliant with Regulation 12 of the Health and Social Care Act (HSCA). This was because not all relevant guidance in relation to infection control had been followed.

At this inspection we found that the provider had taken the steps they needed to achieve compliance. We found that systems were now in place that meant patients were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed. The practice manager told us, "I am pleased with the progress that has been made."

25th February 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke to two patients who were satisfied with the services they received. One patient who had a hearing deficiency explained that she had asked the staff to write down details for her and to clarify whether treatment was being provided under the NHS or privately.

The receptionist explained that they asked patients to complete a detailed medical history and that this was updated at every visit.

We observed that these updates were attached to the NHS treatment consent form and taken in with the patient when they saw the dentist.

We were told that the Infection Prevention Society audit tool was used to monitor improvements in infection control procedures and this was downloaded on to a digital storage system.

Treatment options were explained by the dentist and an assessment was recorded which described the risk of further tooth decay or gum disease. This assessment was used to agree an appropriate recall appointment.
