When we visited the provider told us that they had provided support to eight people who required specialist orthodontist dental care. We spoke with two people who used the service. They were generally pleased with the service and provided examples of good practice. People told us: “They [the staff] were very approachable and answered all my questions. Everything was explained to me” and “I went there with an idea of what I wanted and [the dentist] talked me through some options I hadn’t thought of.” People confirmed that the dentist always explained their treatment options to them and that they were involved in making decisions about their treatment.

We were unable to observe people receiving treatment during our visit but we looked at the care records of four people who used the service. We saw that people’s needs were assessed and delivered in line with their care plan.

We found that there were good arrangements for making sure that people using the service were kept safe. The staff had received training in safeguarding practices and relevant contact numbers were available for staff to report concerns.

We found that there were good arrangements for infection control at the practice. These included the use of protective equipment and procedures for keeping the premises and the instruments clean.

The provider had arrangements for making sure that standards were monitored and improved, where necessary.
