14th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

Information about people’s experience of Sk:n Sheffield was gained by speaking with three people attending the clinic on the day of our inspection and by speaking with the registered manager and a therapist. We also reviewed the records of five people receiving treatment at the practice and reviewed a range of other relevant documents.

People were positive about the treatment they received at Sk:n Sheffield. One person described the staff as, “nice and professional,” and was positive about the fact that they saw the same therapist each time they visited. People told us that the treatment options available to them were discussed, as well as the possible side effects of these. People also told us that they were provided with aftercare advice. One person said that their therapist reiterated the importance of aftercare advice, “every time I visit.”

We found that people benefited from equipment that was used safely and met their needs.

We found that effective processes were in place to ensure that people were cared for by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff. A system was in place to gather, record and evaluate information about the quality and safety of the treatments provided to people. We found that records were up to date and stored securely.

13th December 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We reviewed the records of five people receiving treatments registered by the Care Quality Commission. We found that people had consented and been involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

People were positive about the treatment they received at Sk:n Sheffield. One person had visited for their first consultation on the day of our inspection. They described the therapist as, “lovely” and told us they had discussed a range of treatment options with them in an, “honest and realistic way.” Another person described the clinic as, “very clean, hygienic and comfortable.”

Our review of treatment records demonstrated that people’s needs were assessed and that the treatment was delivered in line with their individual treatment plan and expectations.

We talked with staff and looked at information about safeguarding children and adults. Staff told us that they would report safeguarding concerns to the clinic manager and were confident that they would take action. None of the staff spoken with had received safeguarding training.

We found that staff received induction, training courses and regular supervision and an annual appraisal. Staff spoken with and records reviewed during our inspection confirmed that staff were appropriately trained and supported to undertake their roles.

None of the people we spoke with during our inspection had any concerns about Sk:n Sheffield. We saw that there were policies and procedures in place to investigate complaints.
