23rd October 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

We carried out a follow up visit on this service in October 2013 to check whether improvements had been made since our inspection in January 2013.

In January 2013 we found that improvements had been required in record keeping. In October 2013 we found that the service had achieved compliance.

We spoke with one person attending for treatment. They said “The staff here always respect confidentiality.” We also spoke with three members of staff during our visit.

We found staff had a good understanding of the importance of accurate records and their responsibilities under the Data Protection Act 1998. We found that records were stored securely and easily accessible when required.

People told us they got an “excellent” service and staff were very “committed”. We saw that each person had an individual treatment plan. The plan included information about their general health, which was important for the dentist to consider. People were involved in understanding their treatments. They received verbal and written information about treatments. People were shown pictures of treatments and, where possible, were shown devices relevant to their treatment. Procedures were in place to manage medical emergencies.

People were treated with respect and with regard to their comfort and privacy. Staff were courteous and helpful. People were offered flexible appointment times and dates.

The practice was clean and staff followed the relevant guidance (HTM 01-05) relating to hygiene, cleaning and decontamination in dental practices.

Staff received appropriate training, including training in safeguarding adults and protecting children from abuse.

Systems were in place to monitor the quality of service provision and to manage risk. However, not all records relating to the above outcomes were maintained.
