21st June 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

This report is a follow up to our report published in May 2013. We had inspected this provider on 19 April 2013, when we noted some issues which had a moderate impact on people using the service. These related to standards regarding cleanliness and infection control. The registered person did not ensure that people who use the service were protected against identifiable risks of acquiring health care associated infections by failing to ensure that materials were not at risk of being contaminated. We set compliance actions requiring the provider to take steps to comply with Regulations 12 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010.

We made a further visit on 21 June 2013 to check on the action the provider had taken to meet the requirements of the regulations. We found that the provider had taken appropriate and sufficient action to comply with the regulations.

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual treatment plan.

People told us that they were "very impressed with the staff and the dentist" and that the dentist offered “thorough examination and explained everything.”

During our inspection the dental practice was bright, clean and well maintained. Patients told us they were happy with the cleanliness and that they found it was always “very clean.” However, we noted that some areas of the infection control process needed to be reviewed to ensure the risks to patients were minimized.

The practice was appropriately equipped to provide dental services and the staff were competent and had the required knowledge. There was a sufficient number of staff and the provider had arrangements in place for unplanned staff absences.

People told us that they were provided with treatment plans and estimates were prepared for them. One person said “they say everything then also write it up.” Electronic records were fit for purpose and were kept securely.
