When we visited Smiles Orthodontic Practice, we found a well organised dental practice with three part time dentists offering a service for people across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas. All areas were clean and tidy and people told us that they and their relatives could obtain appointment times that suited them. We were told that the practice offered free treatment co-ordination appointments to ensure people were aware of the details and requirements of the orthodontic treatment offered to them, before undergoing a course of treatment.

We also saw that the practice offered a wealth of health and other relevant information to patients and their families, for example recipes for suitable meals for those with braces on their teeth.

We spoke with people and their families who had visited the dentist that day. One said ''They are friendly and explained everything well.'' Another said ''It was very well explained, excellent service. I have been thrilled.''

We saw that the practice had good methods for collecting people's views of the service, including any complaints. These, and other matters, were discussed at weekly staff meetings, to ensure that people received an appropriate and safe service.
