23rd July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with two patients. Both patients explained that they chose to come to this dental practice for specific treatment based on references from other people. We saw that the provider shared information with patients through a variety of formats, such as leaflets, internet and social media. Staff demonstrated an adequate understanding of consent and there was a system in place to obtain written consent before starting treatment.

The dental practice primarily provides cosmetic and orthodontic treatments to private patients. We found that the practice, which consisted of a single surgery, decontamination room, office and waiting area, was clean and hygienic, although the practice did not maintain a record to assure themselves that cleanliness was adequately maintained.

We saw that staff were registered with the General Dental Council and had responsibility for maintaining their registration through continued education. The provider did not maintain consistent records of this training, and some staff had not had key training.

The provider did not have a system in place to gather and act on the views of people using the service. The provider did not have an adequate system in place to assess and monitor quality.
