18th April 2013 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

On this occasion we did not talk to people who use the service. This inspection was to check whether South Ealing Dental Practice had taken action in relation to compliance actions we imposed following our inspection on the 10 January 2013. At this time we identified that people were put at risk where the practice had not carried out relevant recruitment checks on staff prior to their being employed. We also identified areas where the control of infection was not being managed to ensure that risks to people were minimised.

At our inspection of the 18 April 2013 we found that the provider had taken action to ensure that these compliance actions were met and that people who use the service were not at risk.

10th January 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with six people who use the service. People told us that they were able to get an appointment when they wanted one, and if they needed to be seen in an emergency they were able to be seen on the day. Some comments we received from people were "the staff are very friendly”, “I get the right treatment for my teeth” and “the dentist always explains to me what is going to happen and the costs of this”. We saw information available about the fee structures for NHS or private treatment offered by the practice.

People said that if they had a complaint they would raise this directly with the service, and we saw information in the reception area about how people could do this. We observe appropriate systems for the logging and recording of any complaints received about the service.

However, we found that people were being put at risk where the practice had not carried out relevant recruitment checks on staff prior to their being employed. We also identified some areas where the control of infection was not being managed to ensure that risks to people wrere minimised.
