17th July 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with five patients who had all previously been patients at the practice prior to the retirement of the previous dentist. One person told us. "They have certainly made a lot of changes and the dentist is nice." Another person told us "It's my first visit since the changes and the surgery was very clean and modern.

We spoke with two staff who had worked with the previous dentist. One member of staff told us: "The changes have been fantastic and it has been an exciting challenge getting used to all the new equipment."

We found patients were aware of and involved in their treatment plans and were given sufficient information to make choices in treatments offered. They were made aware of the costs of their treatment at the time of the consultation and throughout their treatment plan.

We observed the nurse carrying out de-contamination of instruments in the de-contamination room. This was set out to meet the standards of the Department of Health guidelines. One person told us "Even though they are having building work done the surgery was very clean."

We saw staff were maintaining their own continuous professional development records. The provider ensured staff training was up to date and staff received appropriate training when they required it. There was a suggestion box in the hall near the reception for patients to leave comments and suggestions to improve the practice.
