4th September 2013 - During a routine inspection

People told us they were asked for their consent before care and treatment was provided. We found that people were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes.

People who used the service told us they always got enough to eat or drink. We found that people were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration.

People told us they found the environment in the hospice to be clean. We found there were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

We found that appropriate pre-employment checks were done and that effective recruitment processes were in place.

We spoke with two people who used the service. One of them told us they were not sure how to go about making a complaint, whilst the other person told us they would know who to contact if they had any concerns. We found that complaints leaflets were available and that there was an effective complaints system in place.

People who used the service told us they were given choices as to their care and shown respect.

They told us they were happy with the care they received.

They told us they felt safe and were cared for by staff who seemed to be well trained.

They said they were asked their opinion about the service offered by the provider.
