We spoke to some people who used the service and reviewed the provider's recent patient satisfaction survey carried out in June 2013. People we spoke with were happy with the service they received. One person told us they had been given sufficient information about their treatment and they were happy with the care they received. A parent of a child who had received treatment told us the staff had put their child at ease as they were very nervous. They said staff were very good with the children they treated and that staff had explained everything that was happening. Each person we spoke with told us they felt treatment areas were sufficiently clean. The patient satisfaction survey the provider had carried out in June 2013 showed that 97% of 44 patients surveyed would recommend the service.

We checked to see if the provider had made improvements following our previous inspection on 18 January 2013 with decontamination and infection control procedures. At our inspection on 20 August 2013 we found the provider had made the required improvements. We found the surgery was clean, instruments were appropriately cleaned and decontaminated, and equipment used was regularly tested and serviced. We found people received treatment only after an examination of their needs and people were asked about their medical history to ensure treatments were safe. The provider audited infection control and other areas to ensure the service delivered was of suitable quality.

People who used the service and their families we spoke with told us they were happy with the service and treatment that had been provided. They told us staff were sensitive to their needs and staff were polite, friendly and kind. People told us they were provided with choices and they were involved in decisions about their treatment. People told us they had been asked about their medical history and any allergies prior to treatment and one person was able to be seen in an emergency. People told us they were provided with information about treatments including any aftercare. People we spoke with felt the surgery and treatment room was clean and well maintained.

We found people were involved in planning their care and treatment and they were able to make decisions and give their preferences. People were treated with dignity and respect and treatments were carried out in private. People's needs were assessed and treatment was delivered in line with their treatment plan. The provider had arrangements in place to deal with emergencies. Staff knew about the different types of abuse and what to look out for. Previous concerns which were identified had been appropriately responded to and reported. The surgery and treatment room was generally clean however some improvements could be made to avoid the risk of infection. Decontamination procedures were generally in line with the provider’s policy but some shortfalls were identified. Staff were well supported and adequately trained.
