10th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We carried out this inspection to check on the care and welfare of people who used this service. Our inspection was discussed and arranged two days in advance. This was to ensure that we had time to see and speak to staff working at the practice, as well as people registered with the service if possible.

People who used the service told us they were fully involved in decisions about their treatment and their consent was sought before treatment began. They told us they were able to ask questions about the treatments available. One person told us: "The dentist is brilliant and always explains what I need to have done and why”.

We spoke with eight people who used the service after the inspection who all told us that the staff were very pleasant and friendly. One person said: “They make you feel welcome which helps with my nervousness! All the staff put you at ease”.

People said that they always found the dental practice to be clean and tidy. We saw that there were good standards of hygiene and infection control practices in place to reduce the risk of cross infection for people and staff.

Staff told us that they had access to a range of training to ensure their skills and knowledge were kept up to date.

All the people we spoke with told us that they had never made a complaint but felt that if they did, the complaint would be dealt with by the staff.
