17th July 2014 - During an inspection to make sure that the improvements required had been made pdf icon

When we inspected the Station View Dental Suite in December 2013, we noted that improvements were required in relation to infection control. We judged that this had a minor impact on patients. We also found that the practice required improvements in respect of assessing the quality of the service and recruitment procedures. We judged that these issues had a moderate impact on patients using the service.

We asked the practice to submit an action plan to demonstrate how they would address these areas to meet the essential standards. We visited the practice again on 17 July 2014, to check that the work had been completed.

We found that the practice had introduced robust cleaning schedules which were all completed appropriately. The practice had completed employment checks on all staff and implemented a suitable recruitment policy. The practice manager had taken measures to gain the views of patients regarding the service and had carried out audits on various aspects of the service.

We spoke with two people who used the service and one person told us "It's absolutely brilliant here, I can't praise them enough. The patient care is second to none and the dentist is extremely flexible with their appointment times". This person told us that the dentist always gives them treatment options and provides advice about what is right for them. Another person told us that they had been recommended by a friend to use the dentist and told us they were pleased with the service. The person told us that the dentist understood their concerns and had had no problems with complex treatment they had received.

We found that people were involved with their treatment planning and were given treatment options. We found that the provider had suitable arrangements in place to deal with foreseeable medical emergencies. We found that the cleaning and the cleaning records were not always complete and the checks that had been completed on staff prior to employment were not satisfactory. We found that the provider did not have a suitable system of regularly assessing and monitoring the quality of the service.
