5th September 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We observed caring and attentive interactions between staff and people. The atmosphere in the home was friendly and relaxed. Staff were knowledgeable of the people they were supporting, respectful and attentive to their needs.

During our inspection, we spoke with three people who were being supported by staff at Summer View. They told us that they felt safe and that they were helped to lead as full a life as possible. One person told us, “I get a lot out of this place, they look after me well and I’ve made steady progress since being here”. A relative we spoke with told us, "XX was happy at Summer View. They felt safe and well supported and they helped XX to start looking forward for the first time in 15 years."

People told us they had been involved in decisions about their care and felt safe at Summer View. People told us that they regularly discussed their care and what they wanted and did not want with all the professionals involved in their care. One person said, “The staff support me, I can talk to them about my problems and they always try to help me.”

People’s welfare, safety and quality of life were monitored through regular reviews, which checked how people’s support was provided, recorded and reviewed.

Summer View worked in partnership with local health and social care partners and other provider services to ensure people accessed the right care, at the right time and in the right place.
