14th March 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with the senior dentist, three dental nurses and one receptionist. We reviewed some dental records, staff files, written policies and procedures and quality audits. After our inspection, we spoke by telephone with five people who were registered with the practice.

People that used the practice told us that they were supported to be involved in all aspects of their treatment. All consultations were recorded and any change in people’s health needs taken into account when planning any treatment. Two people told us that they would recommend the practice to other people. One person told us: “They (dentist) are all absolutely brilliant and “Always gives me the choice of whether I want to go ahead with treatment or not.” Another person said: “She (dentist) talked me through all of the treatment needed and saved my teeth.”

People who used the practice told us that they found that the practice was clean and tidy.

There were clear procedures to ensure that the practice was kept clean. We saw that all dental instruments used were thoroughly cleaned and sterilised between each use. There were effective staff recruitment processes in place and all staff had received training suitable to their roles. This included training to safeguard people from abuse.

We saw that there were arrangements in place to monitor the quality of dental care and treatment people received. This ensured that risks were identified and responded to.
