14th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

This practice is located on the ground and first floor level and was accessible to people who have restricted mobility. The premises consisted of four treatment rooms, a decontamination room and a reception/waiting area. The toilet was located on the ground floor but was not wheelchair accessible.

The dental team consisted of two dentists, two hygienists, a practice manager, three dental nurses and a receptionist. All qualified staff were registered with the General Dental Council. During the inspection we spoke with a dentist, the practice manager, two dental nurses and five people who used the service.

We found that dental records provided information about people’s planned treatment and what treatment they had received in the past.

The decontamination process for dental instruments was satisfactory but some practices could be improved to reduce the risk of cross contamination. The cleanliness of the practice was also satisfactory. One person who used the service said, “The practice is spotlessly clean and comfortable.”

The staff recruitment practices ensured that all staff were suitable to work at the practice. One person who used the service told us, “The staff are very professional and accommodating.”

People had access to a complaints procedure and other methods to share their experiences of using the service. We found that complaints were taken seriously and appropriate action was taken to resolve them.
