31st October 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We found that the practice opens in the afternoons on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and until 1pm on a Thursday.

We found that patients who used the service were given appropriate information and support regarding their care or treatment. We saw that each patient had been given appropriate information with regards to their treatment options in order to make a decision which best suited their needs.

Patients were asked about their views and experiences, some of the comments patients made included “The dentist is very responsive to emergencies” and “They are very helpful and caring”. Another patient said “The service is very good”.

We found that patients' needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual treatment plan. We reviewed the treatment records for ten patients and saw that treatment plans and options had been explained and recorded.

There were effective systems in place to reduce the risk and spread of infection.

Staff told us that they were well supported by the registered manager. They told us that they were given the opportunity to attend staff meetings and that the registered manager was approachable and would listen to any issues they wanted to discuss. We saw from the records we viewed that staff were receiving appraisals, on-going training and we saw induction checklist in staff files.

We found that patients and their representatives were asked for their views about their care and treatment. We saw that the practice routinely handed out patient surveys to gather feedback form patients about their experience of using the service and that the registered provider was assessing and managing the risk associated with providing the regulated activity.
