27th August 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with some people using the centre who were either visiting on the day of our visit or we spoke with them by telephone following the visit.

Some people had been participating in clinical trials for several years. One person we spoke with on the day of the inspection told us they had been provided with the necessary information, in order for them to consent to partake in the clinical trial. We saw the company placed importance on ensuring the person had all the information they required prior to consenting to take part in a clinical trial. In addition individual assessment took place with Synexus own clinicians. This was in order to determine the person was suitable for the trial they had shown interest in taking part.

People we spoke with told us they had been provided with all the information they needed to make a decision about whether to go ahead with the various clinical procedures. One person told us, "I have been doing this for a long time. You get to know everybody, they, make you feel so relaxed”. Another person said "I was told what to expect, and it was what they told me. There was nothing to worry about."

We found people were being supported clinically throughout the trial they were participating in. People spoke positively of the staff and their comments included," The staff cannot do enough for you, I feel really supported.” Also, “I came to Synexus with some trepidation, but I was made to feel at ease immediately. I like the way I was not pressured into making a decision to participate.”

We saw evidence Synexus took account of peoples views as to the service they received. Comment cards had previously been used and we saw a sample of these. All comments showed people were very satisfied with the service they had received. A new version of patient feedback form had recently been introduced. A person we spoke with told us they had completed one that day. They told us they found it useful to report their level of satisfaction. Regular audits took place focusing on specific topics with outcomes being reported back to the senior management board.
