15th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection we spoke with one dentist, four dental nurses and a hygienist. We spoke with four patients and looked at ten care records. We also observed one consultation.

Patients were happy with the care and treatment they received and felt well informed. One patient told us “The dentist is brilliantly careful and very responsive and effective.” Another patient said “They explain what is going on during treatment”.

Patient's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plans. One patient told us “They always give me a treatment plan.” This meant that patients received individualised oral care and treatment that they had agreed to.

We saw that the premises were visibly clean and tidy. Staff we spoke with spoke knowledgeably about the decontamination and sterilisation processes they used. All the patients we spoke with told us that the practice was always clean. One patient said “The practice is always clean and tidy.”

We saw documentation which confirmed that all relevant staff employed by the service held current registrations with the General Dental Council (GDC). We also saw documents which confirmed that the service undertook checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for all staff. This meant that the service had taken reasonable steps to ensure staff were suitable to work with children and vulnerable adults.
