4th June 2013 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

During our inspection of this service in January 2013 we found non-compliance with recruitment processes. We found that there was a lack of evidence to demonstrate that all of the required checks had been undertaken before staff began work. We carried out this inspection to find out if improvements had been made and found that they had.

This dental practice had four treatment rooms and employed five dentists and six nurses.

During our inspection processes we spoke to six people who had recently used this dental practice or were receiving treatment that day. People told us that they were happy with the service that had been provided and the treatment they had received. One person told us, “I am happy with the dentist”. Another person said, “The dentist here is very good”.

People told us and we saw that staff were helpful and polite. We found that people had received the care and treatment they needed. People told us that they were informed about the treatment they needed and were given choices and options regarding this.

We saw that processes were in place to prevent infection. People we spoke with had no concerns about the cleanliness of the practice. People made positive remarks about the recent refurbishment work that was being undertaken at the practice.

Recruitment processes had not been as thorough and safe as they should have been to give assurance that only suitable staff had been employed.

We saw that processes were in place to monitor the quality of the service provided and the satisfaction of the people who used it
