24th January 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People were asked for their consent and their treatment options were discussed with them. People told us, “I’m here because I wanted to be here,” and “I gave my consent to be here as an outpatient.”

People spoke positively about their experience of care and treatment. A person who used the eating disorder service told us, “This is a patient centred and patient focussed service; it feels homely, it is a very nice environment. There is the time and the availability to give you the care you need. We get one-to-one sessions every day.” Another person said, “They work with you in a way that is very gentle and give you the respect you need.”

People who used the service spoke positively about its cleanliness. One person commented, “Cleanliness looks top class everywhere.”

People commented about the staff that worked with them. A visiting healthcare professional told us, “Everyone is approachable; there is an ethos of people working together.” One person said, “The nursing staff go out of their way to care for you; I was very surprised at how kind the staff are and how much they invest in getting to know you. They have a very good working relationship with each other.”

People we asked about making a complaint told us, “If someone wanted to complain, we have been given a form to complete,” and “I have had no need to think about complaining here; there is something about advocacy if you are not happy with the service.”

19th October 2012 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

People told us about the facilities at The Gardens and that they appreciated the care and treatment they received. One person said, “You are well cared for and well fed. The care and treatment is first class. Anything you ask for they try to see that you get it.” People spoke about the staff that worked with them. One person said, “The staff do an excellent job. They all seem very helpful and polite.” A relative told us, “Key people involved with our relative have been generous with their time and good at communicating. Everyone has been so friendly when we have been here.” People we spoke with said they were aware of how to raise complaints but said they were satisfied with the service.

We spoke with people who used the eating disorder service. One person said, “It is fantastic. I have not been in a place quite like this before. We are treated as individuals and as human beings.” Another person told us, “I feel respected while supported feeding is taking place.” They also commented, “There is a lot of one to one interaction and I feel that I can talk to any member and staff and I feel there is a good chance I will recover here.” People said about the staff that worked with them, “The staff are lovely and supportive. They have regular meetings to support each other;” and “I respect the staff. Staff are here to do a job in a very professional way but they do care.”
