During our visit to The Studio we met with the provider and dentist, Dr Julian Perry. We spoke with the registered manager and the dental nurse. We spoke with five patients and looked at five patient’s records.

All of the patients were very happy with the dental treatment they received. One patient told us “I’ve never had a more positive experience at a dentist”. Another patient said “I’ve been shown the x-rays and they’ve explained what’s going on”. The practice had systems in place to seek and act on patient feedback.

We looked at five patient records and saw that medical history updates were not recorded. There was a risk that the dentist may not be aware of patient’s medication or current health status when providing treatment.

Staff told us they were supported to carry out their roles. We saw that staff received training specific to their job.

Patients we spoke with told us the practice was always clean and tidy. The practice followed procedures that minimised the risk and spread of infection. However, the practice did not effectively operate systems to assess and manage risks relating to infection.

The practice did not carry out audits to monitor and improve the quality of the service. Systems were not in place to manage risks. For example, to ensure the emergency drugs were in date.

Following our visit the registered manager wrote to us and told us that action had been taken immediately to address the areas of non-compliance found at our visit.

People are referred to the practice and stay with the practice for the duration of their treatment. People told us they felt fully involved in the decisions made about the various options and their costs. People told us that the surgery was always spotless and they were aware that it was cleaned between each treatment. Treatment was given in private with only those needing to be in the room present.
