13th February 2014 - During a routine inspection pdf icon

We spoke with four people who attended the practice for appointments during our visit. Two of them had been recommended to use the practice and one person told us they had suggested to their wife that they attend there. People described the staff as “Lovely, courteous and knowledgeable”, “Really helpful, kind and supportive”, "Always very pleasant” and “Very friendly and professional”.

We spoke with the provider, practice manager, one of the dentists and three dental nurses. Staff referred to “good team working” and “team spirit”. One member of staff said “The whole team get along” and the dentist we spoke with said they were “ambitious for the practice”. Staff told us they felt supported by the provider, practice manager and other staff.

We looked at the NHS Choices website that enabled people to post messages about their experience at services providing NHS treatments. The most recent two comments included one that was negative. A person wrote about their appointments being cancelled and them not being given any notice. A positive comment stated “The dental practitioners are very good, very kind and very careful. All the staff, nurses, and receptionists are considerate and helpful. Be it an emergency or regular check-up this practice is the best I have ever been to”.

People were involved in decisions about their care and were given sufficient information. There were arrangements in place to deal with emergencies and to respond to concerns about abuse. There were good arrangements for minimising the risk of infection. Staff were recruited effectively and felt supported. There were opportunities for staff training and development. The provider had systems in place to monitor the quality of service provided.
